“Adult learning theory has become the standard by which continuing medical education is
measured and appraised.” [Cantillon. BMJ, 1999] After 15 years producing well-received medical education activities, and in response to advances in the understanding of how doctors learn, we’ve revised our approach to teaching doctors and developed a spectrum of new activities to better educate practicing physicians. More specifically, we’re applying accepted theory of adult learning, emerging findings on medical professionalism, and models of learning in clinical practice to design, implement, and evaluate instruction that measurably changes how physicians practice and promises to improve patient outcomes. The BioContinuum Group’s process for educational design incorporates research on: (1) how adults learn, generally; (2) how doctors learn in clinical practice, specifically; and (3) how to overcome the constraints on learning that exist within the day-to-day practice of medicine.
Proven tools, positive outcomes We have adopted a set of processes and tools proven to help make your next educational effort more successful.
We are continually adding new tools to help us address emerging areas of interest. Our programs encourage the use of small groups and multiple touchpoints to maximize impact and help ensure learning is converted into improved performance. What’s more, educational activities designed and facilitated by The BioContinuum Group have been shown to deliver quantifiable results. Partnering with reputable data-capture companies, such as Outcomes, Inc., and Improve CME, our programs have been shown to improve physician knowledge, skill, and confidence over time. Specific case studies, with measurable outcomes, can be viewed in our portfolio. The White PaperWe have prepared a paper explaining our unique approach to helping clients address and solve problems they face in teaching physicians in clinical practice. This paper details the instructional methods we have synthesized from theories of adult learning, medical professionalism, and clinical learning. Please take a moment to download the White Paper. We believe you will find the information vital to your educational planning and program development. More Than CME: Evidence-Based Education Our approach to education is based on evidence. Please see a review of how the principles of adult education and insights into how physicians learn are applied in our approach to education. |
